Tattoo Aftercare Guide
🖋️ Tattoo Aftercare Guide
✨ With 2nd Skin / Protective Film
If your tattoo was covered with a protective film (e.g., 2nd Skin), follow these steps for optimal healing:
Day 0 – Immediately after session
- Keep the film in place for the first 24 hours; avoid touching or moving it.
- Do not remove or peel prematurely - this protects your tattoo, minimizes scabbing, and keeps it clean.
- Monitor for unusual swelling, bleeding, or discomfort; contact your artist if concerned.
Day 1 – Remove first sheet
- Gently remove the first film and wash tattoo with lukewarm water and mild, fragrance-free soap.
- Pat dry and apply a thin layer of aftercare cream.
- Apply the second sheet of 2nd Skin as instructed (can be kept up to 6 days).
Days 2–6
- Keep the second sheet on for the recommended duration; wash gently before reapplying.
- Avoid picking, scratching, or soaking in water (baths, pools, hot tubs).
- Keep clothing loose; avoid friction or pressure on the tattooed area.
After film removal
- Continue washing 1–2 times daily and applying a thin layer of aftercare cream until fully healed.
- Moisturize regularly and protect from sun exposure with SPF 30 or 50.
- Healing may take 4–6 weeks; touch-ups are not free.
✨ Without 2nd Skin / Protective Film
If your tattoo was not covered with a protective film, follow these steps:
Day 0 – Immediately after session
- Wash tattoo gently with lukewarm water and mild, fragrance-free soap.
- Pat dry with a clean towel or air-dry; avoid rubbing or friction.
- Apply a thin layer of aftercare cream immediately after washing.
- Keep clothing loose and avoid any friction on the area.
Days 1–7
- Wash gently twice daily, apply thin layer of aftercare cream after each wash.
- Expect peeling or flaking; do not pick or scratch.
- Avoid soaking in baths, pools, or hot tubs - showers only, gentle rinsing, 5–10 minutes max.
- Keep tattoo protected from direct sun; use SPF 30/50 from Skinergy.
Days 8–30
- Most surface healing should be complete; continue moisturizing 1–2 times daily.
- Sun protection is crucial to preserve color and clarity.
- Healing may take up to 6 weeks; touch-ups are not free.
💡 General Tips for Both Methods
- Always wash hands before touching or applying cream to your tattoo.
- Do not use harsh antiseptics like Dettol or Savlon - these can damage your skin and ink.
- Keep tattoo clean, moisturized, and protected from friction, tight clothing, or rough surfaces.
- Do not scratch or pick scabs; this affects longevity and finish.
- Gym, heavy sweating, or contact sports should be avoided for the first 2–3 weeks; gentle movement is okay if it does not stress the tattoo.
- Signs of infection include severe redness, swelling, pus, fever, or excessive pain - contact your artist or doctor immediately.
- Aftercare guidance is provided by your artist; following it is your choice, but it is vital for long-term results.
