High-Fade & High-Friction Tattoo Areas

Some tattoo placements naturally require more maintenance than others. Knowing this before booking helps you choose your placement with realistic expectations.

๐Ÿ–๏ธ Why Do Some Tattoos Fade Faster?

Ink retention is affected by skin, placement, friction, washing, sun exposure, movement, pressure, moisture, healing and individual lifestyle. Some areas are simply harder to keep looking freshly tattooed.

Fading in a high-risk area is not automatically a tattooing fault. Even a correctly applied tattoo can require maintenance in these placements.

โš ๏ธ Placements That Commonly Need More Maintenance

โ˜๏ธ Fingers

Constant washing, hand use, friction and sun exposure can contribute to faster fading.

โœ‹ Hands

Frequent washing, rubbing, work and sun exposure can make hand tattoos higher maintenance.

๐Ÿฆถ Feet & Toes

Socks, shoes, walking, friction and moisture can affect healing and long-term retention.

๐Ÿ‘ฃ Sides & Soles

High friction and natural skin turnover can make these areas particularly difficult for long-term retention.

๐Ÿฆต High-Friction Areas

Placements repeatedly rubbed by clothing, footwear or movement may require more maintenance.

โ˜€๏ธ Frequently Exposed Areas

Regular UV exposure can contribute to fading over time. Sun protection is important for tattoo longevity.

๐Ÿฉน Healing Matters Too

Healing can be affected by aftercare, friction, picking, soaking, swimming, sweating, sun exposure, work, sport and normal daily activity. Even when aftercare is followed carefully, individual healing and pigment retention vary.

Wait until the tattoo is fully healed before judging whether it needs a touch-up.

๐Ÿ”„ Our Touch-Up Policy

We offer a complimentary first touch-up within the stated touch-up period, subject to healing and suitability.

That complimentary touch-up is not an unlimited maintenance guarantee. We cannot repeatedly redo fading in high-fade/high-friction placements for free after the complimentary touch-up has been used.

Further touch-ups or refreshes may be charged separately after assessment. If you choose a high-fade placement, please budget for the possibility of future maintenance.

๐Ÿงด How To Help Your Tattoo Last

  • Follow the aftercare instructions provided.
  • Avoid unnecessary friction and picking while healing.
  • Protect healed tattoos from excessive sun exposure and use appropriate SPF.
  • Be realistic about placements that are frequently washed, rubbed or exposed.
  • Contact us once fully healed if you think a touch-up may be needed rather than judging the tattoo during the healing stage.

๐Ÿ“Œ Before Choosing Your Placement

If you're unsure whether a placement is high-maintenance, ask us before booking. We can explain the practical considerations for the placement and help you choose an option that suits your expectations.

Important: This information is general guidance. Individual healing and retention cannot be guaranteed.
